Sailing on Amity, Belfast Maine’s Historic

Friendship Sloop

The best way to experience Belfast, Maine’s maritime culture is from the deck of a traditional working boat. You will be encouraged to participate in the handling of this classic Friendship Sloop. Help raise and trim the sails, take a turn at the helm, or just sit back and relax.

On “Amity” you will learn of the challenges faced by the skilled lobstermen of a century ago as they fished under sail.

Hot coffee and a selection of teas are provided on the trips.

As the sun sets on Penobscot Bay, "Amity" makes her back to Belfast under reefed main and staysail. Sailing in Maine can offer plenty of challenges, but also some spectacular rewards.
“A Friendship Sloop is a gaff-rigged sloop with a fisherman look about her. A Friendship Sloop is a beautiful fusion of form and function. A Friendship Sloop is a state of mind composed of independence, tradition, resourcefulness….”
